October 7, 2023. Cleveland Museum of Art.

Panel discussion with the artists representing the U.S. at the 2023 Architecture Biennale in Venice, in the exhibition titled Everlasting Plastics:  Xavi Aguirre, Simon Anton, Li, Norman Teague and Lauren Yeager. The panel was a part of a larger, two-day symposium organized by Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Art History and Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art. See the event webpage here.

The symposium “Canal to Cuyahoga: Everlasting Plastics in Context” served as a forum to consider our cultural relationship to the ubiquity of plastic, its impact on material cultures, and the consequences and possibilities it entangles for our collective futures. The second day of the symposium was held at the Cleveland Museum of Art and began with a panel discussion featuring the five contributing artists to “Everlasting Plastics:”

 Xavi Aguirre, Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Simon Anton, Detroit-based designer  cofounder of the design collective, “Thing Thing”;

Ang Li, assistant professor at the Northeastern University School of Architecture;

Norman Teague, assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Design;

Lauren Yeager, Cleveland-based sculptor and conceptual artist.

The panel was moderated by Magdalena Moskalewicz, Chief Curator of FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art.
